Hagar, Anthony, Chad Smith and…

If you missed the issue of Guitar player with Slash on the cover, you missed an interview with Joe Satriani about his new CD — which I will get into later. It’s a decent interview, but the one thing that jumped out at me in screamin’ freakin’ neon is that Satch is jamming with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Chad Smith (drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Shades of Vai, Sheehan and DLR?

In my opinion Satch hasn’t exactly slathered on the woodytone over the years, but he certainly can play. And who knows what he’ll sound like in that situation. Maybe he’ll have to ditch that basswood/rosewood axe for more of a midrangy guitar tone, instead of a full-spectrum vocal one.

Okay, probably not, but it could be nice.

Very curious about what these guys sound like. Chad is a good, active drummer (not metronomic), Mike can of course play and sing, and Sammy sounds better at 60 than he did when he was riding a Bad Motor Scooter.

And remember Planet Us from a few years ago? No record, but the band was Satch, Neal Schon, Sammy, Mike and Deen Castronovo on the skins. Would love to have heard that stuff. Neal is a great player.
